Buskers iPhone App

This was a group project. Our assignment was to develop either a website, web app, or native application that fell in one of these categories:

  • Social
  • Dieting/cooking
  • Finding a job
  • Charity or goodwill
  • Comedy

Our group designed a mobile app about New York City buskers (street musicians). We wanted it to be useful for people interested in seeking out new, underground music as well as the artists themselves.

The core functionality was to aggregate listings of MTA-sanctioned buskers which included bios, photos, and the locations they played at. The app would allow users to add “favorites” to a personalized list. It would have robust search/filtering capabilities that would show artists by location, genre, or name.

Wireframes show the app architecture and basic layout:

Other features we envisioned for future iterations include:

  • The ability to donate to buskers via PayPal or other mobile payment applications
  • Using GPS to find buskers in real time
  • Integrating Foursquare-like functionality that would allow buskers to “check in” when they arrive at their designated location
  • The ability to play MP3 files from the artists
  • A corresponding web portal for the artists to manage/update their profile information, collect donations, and promote themselves
